Welcome to Andrea's Educational Consulting and Special Education Advocate!
.
Hello and thank you so much for your interest in the educational services I am able to provide. I look forward to working with you.
I am a recently retired Arkansas state certified teacher. When I started teaching I knew I was led to this career because I truly enjoyed my job. Of course being able to provide for myself was also important What I didn't know at the time was that my career and career advancement choices would directly impact my own children's educational success. Both of my children have disabilities including Dyslexia. Now that my own children have completed their time in public education and have moved on to focus on their respective careers, I want to continue helping other children and their parents navigate the ever -changing field of education
I have been teaching in Arkansas since 1993. I initially recieved my Bachelor's of Education at the University of Central Arkansas in secondary history. I later added Elementary Education to my certification. I began my teaching career in my hometown of Forrest City, Arkansas. Once married I stayed in eastern Arkansas but moved to Blytheville and Osceola Public Schools working with upper elememtary and primary age children. It was at this time, I determined I would advance my career in order to work specifically with children who have reading disabilities. I attended Arkansas State Univeristy graduating with a Master's Degree in Reading Specialist. Later I would attend A-State for my Master's in Special Education program. As fate would have it both of my own children have special education needs for disabilities that include Dyslexia. This need was the driving force behind my desire to become certified in multi-sensory reading intervention. I eventually certified in Orton Gillingham at San Diego State University.
My husband and I have been married almost 30 years and we have two amazing children. Our eldest graduated from The University of Arkansas Walton School of Business and now lives and works in Dallas, TX. Our youngest recently graduated from Bentonville High School going to The University of Central Arkansas. At UCA she has been a cheerleader and is majoring in bio-chemistry as part of their pre-med program. We have two furry children that help keep us from being complete empty-nesters. Having recently retired from the classroom, I've had the opportunity to re-engage in some of my favorite hobbies. I gravitate towards outdoor activities like gardening, hiking, kayaking and running. When it's cold I enjoy being indoors with a good book! My husband also enjoys a new hobby I've taken up, baking desserts and bread. Attending church with my family has always been a priority. Although now it's a bit quieter in the pew without our kids. Unfortunately the furry kids aren't allowed.
Again thank you for considering Andrea's Academic Consultation and Special Education Advocacy for you and/or your child. I look forward to getting to know you.
